Hi James,

My JDBC 2.0 Fundamentals course is still available, although Oracle has made it difficult to find Sun Developer Network materials. It includes complete exercises that run on the AS/400. Keep in mind that it was written in 2000, so, for example, Cloudscape has since evolved to Derby. But the basics are really still the same and virtually all of it still applies.

You should, of course, use the latest drivers, and later track changes since JDBC 2.0. Also, in a server-centric world, connection pooling is the norm rather than dealing directly with the Driver manager. The course is at:

I'll leave how good it is up to you. ;-)

HTH,

Joe Sam

Subject: Anybody know a good JDBC tutorial, (was Re: Uniquely identifyinga record in SQL without a unique key? on Midrange list)

The so-called "Award Winning Tutorial" on JDBC at TutorialsPoint turned
to bupkis as soon as I tried the update example.

Anybody know of a JDBC tutorial that actually works, preferably by a
non-anonymous author or authors?
