I'll second the recommendation for Effective Java, second edition. It's a
great book for those who already know Java. I've read it a few times myself
:-)

The generics implementation in Java (allowing you to have lists of
strings and not just objects) require quite a bit of effort to learn,
and Effective Java helps.
