I have found a solution.

An open-source Java solution at sourceforge.
http://sourceforge.net/projects/openpcl/

It's written in Java and the conversion classes are in a separate jar file that I can include in my own project. So, best of all, it can run native on the iSeries.

I am familiar with reading SpooledFiles in Java using the toolbox.

I am having trouble with reading a SpooledFile that has a Printer Device
Type of *USERASCII, however. I have tried using
getTransformedInputStream but keep getting a generic error message.
I have tried getInputStream() but I get a ton of garbage characters back
in the stream.

If I recall correctly *USERASCII means that the printing system just
consider it a binary blob instead of anything with lines and overlays
and such.

Would the garbage characters happen to be valid PCL (HP printer language)?
