Also, don't be alarmed when your Java apps run MUCH faster :-)

Great! I also highly recommend that you download and apply the latest
java PTF Group. Java gets "fixed" quite a bit.

Got it! Thanks Pete.

If you still have the V5R4M0 media, you should be able to install it.
It should be on CD 7 (D29xx_07 standard set) according to this:

Steve,

Thanks for the quick reply.

Unfortunately I don't have option 8 installed, or any of the other new
JDKs
that get installed in /QOpenSys. I only have the classics 1.3, 1.4 and
1.5.
That's why I'm wondering if I can use my V7.1 DVD's to install the new
JDK's
while I'm at V5R4. Or do I need to obtain the new options some other way.

Kendall

They are referring to using/testing your existing Java apps with the J2SE
5.0 32 bit java, which is license option 8. In V7R1 Java 5.0 (classic)
is
not longer an option. This needs to be done on while your machine is
still
V5R4. Adding the environment variables at the *SYS level is one way to
get
the Java app to run with the 32 bit java.
