Therefore, it would seem that someone has indeed "mucked with" your system
by removing the /bin -> /usr/bin symlink.

You can repair the specific damage of the /bin symlink being missing by
running these commands:

ln -s /usr/bin /bin
chown -h qsys /bin

Of course you are still left with the "free floating anxiety" of what else
this rogue person may have done to your system ;)
