Steve,

I'm not sure if I have a lot to help - we have seen nice improvements
going from the classic 64bit jvm to the 32bit j9 jvm. This is
relatively new to us so we don't have any significant benchmarks. In
our case we have a websphere portlet that has a problem with image
rendering when running in the classic jvm. I believe that is a code
problem. Given the direction from IBM I don't see us pursuing classic
jvm any further...

I am under the impression that performance differences between 32bit j9
and 64bit j9 are mixed. This is definitely your mileage may vary
scenario. The only hard and fast rule is your heap size. I don't think
most people will run into this limit but it is out there.

Subject: 32 bit vs 64 bit Java

At V6R1 we have the following options for java (for the j9 versions)
5761JV1 8 J2SE 5.0 32 bit
5761JV1 9 J2SE 5.0 64 bit
5761JV1 11 Java SE 6 32 bit
5761JV1 12 Java SE 6 64 bit

Has anyone done any benchmarking, or has any experience or
recommendations on what is best to use? We currently support the
Classic JDK 5.0 and the J2SE 5.0 32 bit. I am wondering if there is an
advantage to the 64 bit versions.

Thanks
Steve
