Yes, the multiple implementations was the main reason I haven't done
anything yet.

Netbeans looks like it has a good Hibernate plug-in. This weekend I played
briefly with it, but it looks like I need to read about how it works before
I can do anything. I got DB2 configured, but wasn't sure what to do next :-)

I actually saved that email thread because I thought I might need it at some
point. The most valuable link in my opinion was this one from Joe Sam.

I picked the Hibernate implementation of JPA (cannot remember the exact
name) for a project some time ago. The reason for this was that DB2/400
is a supported SQL dialect in Hibernate which all in all is important to
us, and it worked well.

Note that unless instructed otherwise Hibernate wants the DB2 file to be
journalled. There was a posting I saw a while back about how to get
around that limitation, but I haven't tested.

When you are up and running, I think you will like it. I did.

If I recall correctly MyEclipse has a feature allowing you to build Java
classes from database tables, giving you a simple way to go
"backwards". The generated Java code is usable outside MyEclipse.

I have not tried calling stored procedured - looking forward to
interesting info :)
