Have any of you had much experience using Java in a batch environment on the System i?

Well, IMO, Java on the System i does it's best in batch.

Either as a data server, app server, etc.

The startup penalty of the JVM is, IMO, way too much to subject the end user to.

This is why I decided to go with a sockets interface between my interactive RPG apps and java server.
