I expect you have a basic syntax problem. An int is a primitive but String is a Java class. String is also in java.lang, so no import is necessary. What this means is, "show us the code." You may want to look to the Java Tutorial or a good book like "Core Java."

While it may not apply to you, I've seen many who say, "I'm a programmer, I can just run with this stuff," but IMO one should do the basic groundwork. I have a (thankfully) former client that cost themselves close to a half million dollars because of that mindset.

Hi I am very new at this and I know this is very simple for all of you
experienced programmers. I am using netbeans 6 and trying to write
helloweb application. But when I am trying to create a string field I
am getting an error message "class interface or enum expected" I am
using some of the netbeans tutorial to do this example. However when I
am defining a int field there is no problem. am I missing to import a
file?
