I have the batch Java job that processes the data queue.  What's the
best way to make sure that job is still running?  

For a batch RPG/CL program, I would have it allocate a data area.  The
interactive program could then determine if the batch job was running by
trying to allocate the same data area but I am not sure that would work
with Java.
