    Assuming this means opinions, I agree that stored procedures can make
portable Java apps suddenly non-portable due to a DBMS proprietary form.
Other than Java stored procedures, which can bring up new issues, there is
no SQL standard syntax for stored procedure syntax.

    As an example, Microsoft strongly encourages stored procedures, and most
SQL Server users ( including Java programmers ) go right along.  The problem
is that you're either stuck with the DBMS engine or a rewrite.
