That is a good point, so let me rephrase my question.  
Can I override the behavior of showing the default login panel if an
invalid username/password is passed as an argument.   Return an
exception instead.

it would be a serious security hole if this would be possible.
I think there are lots of other ways to store a password than
asking the JDBC driver for it ;-)
