        Not sure if the sshd would work on the iSeries but it would be worth

On every platform i would say that you can use SSH to tunnel the JDBC
connection
through it, but i am not aware of an SSH daemon for iSeries, of course you
could 
use linux on LPAR, but then you might have problems accessing your database.

So many questions here, but check SSH availability.
