Dieter,

You obviously have some cases where a split environment works well. The
new iSeries hardware changed that in some cases. My experience has been
that splitting the app server from the database server will not scale
nearly as well in a transaction intensive environment for a similar
number of processor or price point due to the higher latency when
retrieving data.
