That would be good if the application is running on the windows network.
In your case, I assume, the data would still be on 400. 
I am running the application on the 400 and want to send to the network,
without going to a windows client.
I hope I understand what you were saying.

We map a network drive to the AS/400 and store stuff in the directory to
which the mapping points.  Of course, the
AS/400 has to be part of the network.  I'm sure there is docs on setting
that relationship up.  Once the AS/400 is seen
in the MS Neighborhood, it's fairly trivial to set up a mapped drive to
the directory.
