Re: JDBC Connection pooling

Tim,

The most time consuming part of database connections are the opening and
closing of the connections.  This is true whether you are using JDBC, JT400
Toolbox classes, RPG, COBOL, or any other language.  Connection pooling
allows you to open a specific number of connections at the time the first
connection is made.  A connection is taken form the pool, used, and
returned to the pool.  Subsequent use of the connection does not require the
open/close overhead.  This reduces the overall connection times.
