I haven't tried it yet but Craig Pelkie at Bits and Bytes Programming might
have an option for you.  I have the product here (just got it) but haven't
had a chance to try it yet.  It's kind of a VAJ for beginners intro.  It
costs $395 and looks ok to me.  Check it out at www.web400.com.  Hopefully,
in a few weeks I can be a little bit more informative.

I am new to this list, and am sure this has been posted before so I
apologize in advance.

Being a seasoned RPG developer, I really want to learn JAVA as it applies
to the AS/400.  Been thru a host of JAVA training books, but nothing as it
relates to the AS/400.

Can someone point me in the direction of a good AS/400 + JAVA manual?    Is
there some other training path available besides the IBM training (budgets
are tight right now)?
