I think I might be able to answer my own question.

Does anybody think that this
http://developer.java.sun.com/developer/qow/archive/83/ might be how I can
fix this problem?

Subject: Object Serialization Servlet/Applet

All,

I have an application where the applet connect to a servlet through HTTP.
The applet posts parameters, the servlet gets the request, does some
processing and then serializes an object and returns that back to the
applet.

The content type of the returned object is
application/x-www-form-urlencoded.

The application is developed with VisualAge for Java 4.0 and it works fine
in the WebSphere Test Environment, it also works fine on WebSphere. When I
run the servlet on Tomcat 3.2.x I get an exception
java.io.StreamCorruptedException: Caught EOFException in the Applet when it
deserializes the object.

I have seen many similar questions but somehow they never get answered. Does
anybody have suggestions?

Etienne
