Scope levels for beans -- JAVA400-L

Does anyone have a good understanding of scope parm in the "jsp:useBean" tag?  
It never seems to work the way I think it
should, so I guess I just don't understand it.

Specifically, page and application scopes have me baffled.  The request and 
session are fairly straight forward.
However, page seems to linger longer than I think it should.

Any help would be appreciated.....
