Hi Mike,
J2ME, the Java 2 Mobile Edition, is for running Java _on the mobile
device_.
WAP, like HTTP+HTML, is (primarily) for "dumb" devices - browsing &
form-filling only.
To produce WML (the WAP parallel of HTML) you don't need J2ME on the
server. In fact you don't need any Java on the server (although it sure
helps :).
To use J2ME on the device, you don't need WAP. In fact you don't
necessarily need to communicate with a server.
And BTW, WAP is mostly for cellphones. PDAs usually use other schemes.
But this is not a must.
HTH,
Nimrod

Subject: WAP?
All,
I am going to be implementing a WAP (PDA type) device using the J2ME
standard. I need to access data from the AS/400 with this project. Are
there any J2ME classes for AS/400 access available? I am not sure if the
normal data access classes (Toolbox classes) will work in the J2ME
environment. Also, did anyone else on the list develop wireless
applications using J2ME and connecting to the 400?
Mike
