David, if there is any chance that you might
want to use sockets, take a look at the IBM
eServer iSeries Custom Technology Center's
General Purpose Sockets Server and Java Sockets
FFM Client. They aren't free, but they are really
good: easy to use, extremely reliable, and
blindingly fast.
