Thanks for the offer of help, of which I just might take you up. Any
questions I have I will post on the list as several replies to this thread
indicate that I am not the only one having trouble.

 I too agree that this is not the place for a MS vs IBM  discussion. I was
just using VB as an example.

As for VAJAVA, I'm still at a loss. It's probably just me, but it does not
seem to work like other IDE's I've used. I'm still in my infancy as a Java
programmer and maybe will appreciate it as I get further advanced. However,
I'm still working without an interactive debugger. Since I am at V4R5 and
am lucky enough to work for an organization that has software subscription,
I will just probably order the new development suite. IBM says that the
debugger will work with Java 1.3.
