Nope. TWO objects. 1 object reference.

Better is
String myString = null;
if (blah)
  myString = "HTML";
else
  myString = "XML"

Although a string is a bad example because for this
code the constant string values are inserted into
the class file, and these assignments don't create
anything, they just assign a reference to the
existing constant objects.
