Hi. I'm a newbee too, so I sympathize. :)

If you saved your *.java source files in a directory
called /mydir, and you are working from the QShell
Interpreter, then:
     (a) on the QShell command line enter
            export -s CLASSPATH=/mydir
         to set the classpath, and
     (b) on the command line enter
            cd /mydir
to make your directory the current
         directory.

If you are working from an AS/400 command line, enter
WRKENVVAR, select option 1, enter 'CLASSPATH' for the
name of the variable and enter '.' to make the
classpath default to the current directory. Return to
the command line. Then enter CHGCURDIR and set /mydir
as the current directory.

I created an Absolute Beginner's Guide to Java on the
as/400 to fulfill a writing assignment in one of my
courses. I can try to send it as an attachment if you
want it.

Kelly
