That only works for Java 2 environments.  So if you're using JDK 1.1.7 or
1.1.8, you still have to build a classpath listing all of your .jar files.

I thought I had tried that, but found it didn't work.  I had to specifically
specify the .jar file for the servlet classes.  I'm sure of it.
