This is the only warning I can find regarding getSession().

This method returns the current session associated with the user making the
request. If the user has no current valid session, this method creates one
if true is passed or returns null if false is passed. To ensure the session
is properly maintained, this method must be called at least once before any
output is written to the response.

I do not know HTTP well enough to know if different session id's would be
assigned to the same browser session for http and https.
