Daniel,

     According to IBM the CRTJVAPGM creates a system
binary that is actually attached to the class file
itself. The AS/400 recognizes this binary an runs it
instead of the actual class.  Also, the AS/400 is
smart enough to know when you are moving the class
file off the system and strips the binary out. If i
have left anything out feel free to correct me guys.
