One more idea on integrating Java, data and AS/400 host pgms ...

You can get a JDBC connection which creates an AS/400 server job.
You can use a stored procedure call to run the CL / RPG program to create
or update a file in QTEMP. You can pass parms to the program as well. You
can then use standard JDBC Select statements to read the table from QTEMP
nicely...

Yes, you are correct. I decided to just use the JDBC connection handle and
pass it around in the application. This way I was able to create files in
QTEMP and read from them using SQL Statements. I can do what I need to do
in SQL and do not have to use CL and RPG. Thanks.

It has been a while since I last played with server-side JDBC, but I am
pretty
sure that it (still) goes through a separate server job for the SQL
requests.
Since the JDBC server job has a different QTEMP than the Java, CL, and RPG
programs, you will not find the file that you want.
