Re: Running a Java application via an icon

You can make sure that Close on Exit is selected from the "Program tab" of
your shortcut's properties.  If you do not want the dos window to hang
around at all (even during program execution) you can execute your
application with JREW.EXE instead of JRE.EXE.  Keep in mind though, you
will lose all console output (System.out.println) if you use JREW.EXE.

Thanks very much Joe, this is great and exactly what I was looking to do. I
only have one small problem left! When I launch the application I hide the
DOS shell as expected but I still get a minimised icon that appears on the
task bar.  I know that I can manually close this myself, but I was
wondering
if there was anyway to prevent this from happening in the first place.
