I suggest you put lots of debugging statements into your applet to print out
any exceptions that occur, etc., and then look in the Java Console of the
browser you are running in to determine what is going on. I think that JDBC
might not be enabled by default in Netscape, although I do not remember
100%. For netscape there are links at http://developer.netscape.com  and for
microsoft search on Authenticode at MSDN and eventually you will find links
to the java security options for applet signing (if it turns out you need to
sign). By the way which driver are you using? From your first message it
looks like you are using db2 for the driver from the applet. You might want
to try the AS/400 Toolbox for Java JDBC drivers and see if they work.

Also the applet can only make a connection back to the same server it was
downloaded from.
