I failed to mention my position on this in my previous response, but I agree. 
I'm willing to go so far as to say that you are better off NOT knowing C or
C++... Aside from the most basic syntax issues, they have very little in
common.  Java is much easier to learn and use as there are fewer ways to get
yourself in big trouble.
