I have heard more than one of you on the Java list mention CST's jacada product.
I spoke with them briefly at the java expo at Javitz a few weeks back.  I was interested because they say they generate maintainable java source code.  A number of businesses we've spoken to want some of their legacy apps web enabled NOW.  That request leaves no room for the java/oop learning curve.
Can anyone give me some feedback on the product and if possible, feedback on the maintainability of the generated code.
Thanks,
Colleen Howard

Ken,

I'm right down the road from you.  We also have Domino running natively at
V4R3 on one of our AS/400's.  I use the VA Java Enterprise 2.0.  I have not
had the opportunity to learn much about Java so far.  I think that the
re-engineering of legacy RPG applications to a client server model, using
Java on the front end, is a critical priority for my environment.  There is
too much value in our legacy applications to "throw it away" and too little
value in our "dumb" green screens to keep them.  I have shipped an
application off to CST, for them to run through their Jacada product.  It
will theoretically automate the migration of the user interface in a legacy
application to Java.  Advanced Business Link has a similar product.  IBM has
a redbook that describes the concept in some detail, but does not attempt to
automate the process much.  Ask me in a year if I'm flipping burgers or
suffering from a caffeine problem ;)

To tell you the truth, until your message came through, I had forgotten
that I
subscribed to this list.  Anyway, like many of the other respondents,
Siecor
is still experimenting with Java on the AS/400.  I've been working recently
with
java/400 access to our Domino/Notes databases that are running on one of
our AS/400s.  I have the VA Java - pro ed. - but I'm primarily working with
the SDK only until I have a better idea of how everything fits together.
