Honestly, I'm not sure what your point is here. Are you saying we should NOT use EGL and RPG and should instead code everything in Java? Are you saying Java is better than RPG? If so, then I appreciate your argument and point you towards the JAVA400-L list (which I happen to moderate <grin>).

Pete can let us know his thoughts, since he's the moderator, but as far as I'm concerned, this list should be about how to best apply EGL in the i environment, not a discussion of why EGL is bad for the i community and how {Language X} is better.

That's not to say that given a specific business requirement there shouldn't be a good discussion about whether it's best implemented in EGL or another language! I love head-to-head PRACTICAL comparisons.

And lest you think I'm a Java basher, the reason I use EGL is because I am a firm believer in Java EE. It's just that I believe OO is better suited for the UI layer than for the business logic layer.

But if you want to complain about my personal opinions about Java or OO, either do it in private email (where I'll bore you to tears with my analysis) or on JAVA400-L where we can get other Java enthusiasts to chime in. Or WEB400-L, which seems to have become the center of language debates here.

Let's try to leave this particular list focused on the practical aspects of using EGL with the i.

P.S. It's funny, but I happen to agree with you on just about everything you say, from the foibles of web apps and bloggers, and abstraction vs. subclassing, and so on. But rather than find that common ground and come to a consensus, instead you label my opinion as "nonsense" just because I disagree about where OO is best suited. That's the sort of attitude that really adds a lot of unnecessary static to a discussions and is something I'd like to avoid.
