In File > Preferences > Basics, is AutoSave enabled at the top? If so, try
this:

- Disable it
- Close Notes
- Delete c:\program files\ibm\lotus\notes\data\as_maildbname.nsf (if there
isn't an as_* file, then this is an issue...)
- Open Notes and see if you can reproduce it
- Enable autosave (this should create the as_* db after the first autosave
attempt - reply to a memo and let it sit for the time you have listed)
