If you are just running the instant messaging client built into the Note
client, you can freely run a Domino server for Instant Messaging if all
you use it for is Instant Messaging. As soon as you want to run something
else on it (same DPAR or another DPAR) you will need licensed Domino
server. I find it hard to believe that you would run a Domino server on
iSeries for just IM, so I'm sure you will need a server licence.

Hi,

We just got our Passport renewal and it made me think about Domino
licensing with Sametime.

>From memory when we first purchased Sametime and had it running on a
Windows, we only paid for the client connect licenses as you needed Domino

to run Sametime server. Therefore no Domino lics or Sametime server lics.
Was I right in believing this? And it is still the case with running
Domino/Sametime on an iSeries?

So if you only used the built-in Sametime client with Lotus Notes, you
wouldn't have to pay anything if you went by my reasoning. I don't think
this would be correct.

So, should I be paying for the Domino server license when running Sametime

on our iSeries?

Thanks

Regards,
