Hello Rob,

v6.5.2 is the version currently up. Within a week of the upgrade, about 3
weeks ago,
was the last time the mail.box gave us a problem. In all fairness, I
suspect that it
inherited the problem from the previous version, v6.5.0

As far as spam and the like, I handle dead mail with replication setting,
space savers
and toast any over 48 hours. This means at any given time, there are from
600 to
1200 dead messages in each of the two boxes. When I had domino doing
inbound
SMTP direct from the internet, I used DNS black list, that help allot. Now
with a spam
filter taking all inbound SMTP, I can't use it, but still use the
verification that the user
exists. The problem is that all bounces and such that the spam filter
make are sent
to domino for outbound SMTP routing... So it's rather pointless.

My company leases molding machines, punch presses and things that have a
30
year useful life.. We buy IT hardware that I would like to see cycled
every 3 years.

Such is life <sigh>

Re: Sametime

Forgive me if I missed it in the thread, but what version of Domino are
you having this corrupt mail.box issue on? That sounds somewhat familiar
but way back in the fog of time. Another issue I used to have with
mail.box was spam going to invalid addresses at our domain. Upgrading to
R6 and using the option to reject invalid addresses was a godsend.

And a 7xx box is old. And while you may perceive that it runs the rest of

your business well you'd be amazed how the newer technology will run it,
and take on new workloads, like Domino, websphere, etc and really shine.

We upgraded from our 7xx to an 840. The 840 has now been replaced by a
570. And, having a 30% reduction in force throughout the whole company
within the last year does not put us in the place to throw away money. We

are saving a bundle of money on maintenance costs, etc. We were able to
drop from a P50 to a P30. We always lease. We don't want to get stuck
with 6 year old hardware.

Re: Sametime

Chris,

The 400 performs well overall. It's running current OS
and has all new drives and memory a plenty. I like
the box. Domino has been problematic in the sense that
mail(x).box becomes corrupt every couple of months
for no obvious reason. That obviously sends the router
into a major fit. HTTP task hangs every now and again.

That said, I would not try to support 10,000 users on a
wintel farm. We don't have 10,000 employees, let alone
users. Simply that domino on the 400 has been a bit
problematic when compared to the other platform I have
to deal with.

Re: Sametime

I would advise moving onto a current iSeries platform before saying that
Domino is problematic on the iSeries.

Would you run your Domino on a wintel server that is 6 years old and
expect the same performance/stability as running it on a wintel server
made in the past year or two?
