DNS blacklists work like a charm and keep a huge amount of Spam from
ending up in our
mailboxes.

I have been using them extensively for about two years.

I do receive a false positive once in a while. I just contact the admin of
that company and give them advise on how to get off the lists, I also
add their server to our whitelist to skip a relay check. It is not really
a white list but works well.

The list below are the current DNS Blacklists I find effective.

Here are the stats for one of my servers.

  SMTP.DNSBL.bl.spamcop.net.Hits = 215841
  SMTP.DNSBL.dnsbl.sorbs.net.Hits = 139119
  SMTP.DNSBL.relays.ordb.org.Hits = 3516
  SMTP.DNSBL.sbl-xbl.spamhaus.org.Hits = 114929
  SMTP.DNSBL.TotalHits = 473405
  SMTP.MessagesProcessed = 780615

Did you have to uninstall Scanmail, install R6.5.2 and then reinstall
Scanmail?

Also, when I look at the Current Virus Pattern File panel in the Scanmail
Pattern database, I only see pattern number 1.925.00, then nothing where I

used to see a pattern file, and at the bottom I see the lptvpn.925
attachment.

TM support told me that this is okay, but I liked it better (was more
comfortable) when it actually showed the pattern file. Since SM is working

just fine, I don't intend to uninstall and reinstall it just to try
correct this cosmetic flaw. Comments anyone?

I did not have to reinstall ScanMail. My pattern db looks normal and my
virus scanning appears to be working fine as well.

We talked about this a while back. Check out the archives. I don't use
this in Domino since we use an SMTP Gateway appliance.

I've had good luck with bl.spamcop.net and sbl.spamhaus.org
