Lotus does not support upgrading a single Domino server to a partitioned 
Domino server. 
Sorry to get your hopes up.

I do remember being told it could be done, but the only references I could 
find doing a quick
google recommend against it.

Can you point me to a resource to confirm this?  I'd be willing to try it
