Got this response off the Lotus list:

We use Mimesweeper for SMTP as our mail gateway, and it can and has in
the past been configured to keep copies of all mail in and out of the
domain. In addition to that its virus checking all our mail, and doing a
content check.

It was easy to setup and maintain, and I've had very few problems. I
re-boot the server about every 1-2 months, not because it needs it, but
just as a matter of routine. In addition to the content check, a
pornsweeper add on is available, which will scan pictures for possible
inappropriate content, and also secretsweeper which will encrypt and
decrypt mail. We don't currently use these two addon's, but will be
installing Pornsweeper in the near future when I upgrade the current
gateway. (it's just an IBM GL300 with 128Mg RAM) to a higher spec
machine.
