Most places have a requirement for successfully completing a training class
in order to get a CCW.
My youngest son just got his. I think he said he spent a day and a half in
the classroom and on the gun range. He got very high marks from the
instructors for his proficiency.

Would you be open to some sort of skills and safety testing for gun
owners and users?
I've said as much on dozens of occasions, but you wouldn't know that
because you never read what I write. I doubt you will even read
this.
I amend this - not skills testing, but I would not be against
attending a mandatory training course. I have attended two of these
over the years and they are very helpful.
