I haven't been on an airplane since 2002. I'm relatively sure that the next
time that I fly that I'll be detained and harassed, 'cause I'm gonna have an
'attitude'.

I've flown about a dozen times since 9/11. I have yet to be patted
down. I even flew once - round trip - without my driver's license,
which caused a ton of trouble and extra time, but at no time did they
deem me dangerous or suspect enough to search. They did make me throw
away my toothpaste and sunscreen.
I do believe that if I were to have an attitude, I would receive extra
attention - but I am always friendly and efficient, not wasting their
time nor mine. If I were a pretty woman or 'swarthy' looking, I might
also receive more scrutiny.
This is not to say that those with an attitude deserve the extra
'attention' - not at all. But what I am saying is that it can be
avoided under most circumstances. Be friendly, polite and efficient -
know the rules - laptops out, shoes and jackets, belts, empty pockets
all into the tub. Look them in the eye and follow instructions. You
will be through and on your way to the gate in no time.
Maybe that's the pussy's way out, but I don't like airports and my
time is valuable to me. When I fly, it's usually for pleasure and
with friends and family. I don't feel like being a martyr when I'm on
vacation.
