Re: Harmony remotes

and on a related note..I now have a good solution for my HTPC for when
Windows acts screwy and I need to pull out a keyboard/mouse. I bought an
app for my iPhone that turns it into a touchpad for the PC using the
wireless network. If only my Harmony remote could do that, it'd be perfect.

Man, I don't know how people did it in the past... they probably had to get
up and walk over to the TV to change the channel. Crazy. :)

Yeah, I've heard of them referred to as Activity Based Remotes.

I like that you can also create multiple activities/tasks for the same
equipment and give it different names. So if you use a PS3 for blu-ray,
music, and watching DVD's, instead of having a "Turn on PS3" button, you can
create three separate ones for each activity. Again, wife friendly. :)

They were expensive, the only reason I spent the money on one was because I
got it about half price when Circuit City went out of business.

If you have more than 2 pieces of equipment to run, yes they're pretty
cool.

You set it up via USB from your computer based on make and model of
equipment instead of hitting buttons and codes on the remote -

You operate it by task - if you just want to watch tv, you hit one
Watch TV button and it turns on your TV, your cable box and your sound
system and sets them all to the proper media source.

Hit "Watch Movie" and it sets your TV and sound system to 'DVD' and
turns on your dvd player.

Afterwards, the function keys (volume, channel, menu, FF, Play, etc)
all are pointing to the proper device.

They're not cheap though. Mine was one of the cheaper models and it
was well over $100.

it?

Thanks.
