Should the employers have to ok Buck getting a job at the union ? Seems fair
to me. Maybe he should contribute something to the companies also.

It's a shame that Buck, in his position as an IT person for a union, is
forced to pay into the union's coffers when his job has nothing to do with
the jobs of the other members of the union.

then they would be in favor of eliminating any such requirement as a
condition of employment to join and pay dues to any association, which
