Re: I knew there had to be a reason....

Did you note ineligible for Title XVIII' right?  TITLE XVIII—HEALTH
INSURANCE FOR THE AGED AND DISABLED
http://www.ssa.gov/OP_Home/ssact/title18/1800.htm

you're not going to make me read that whole thing, are you? What do
you think I am? A congressman? ;-)

I would like to point out that, to use an example, General Motors
agreed to the terms in those contracts, year after year as the decades
rolled on  The UAW didn't force GM to sign them.  GM is complicit in
the over extended nature of these plans.  The inexorable power of
exponentiation and the inability of anyone in the decision making
chain to comprehend it is to blame, if anything.

Absolutely. I'm not blaming the UAW by themselves. GM et.al. freely
negotiated those contracts and deserve just as much blame.

I originally thought you meant the UAW were getting $10B to beef up
the pensioners' cut.  Now I think I see that you mean all the
retirees, like IBM who had their contracts unilaterally revoked.
Which is another word for broken.  By the employer.  Makes me wonder
why we need unions in the first place.

but IBM retirees aren't going to be eligible for this break, are they?
Without this, the union retirement plans will have to revoke their
contracts too. Why save the union pensions and not others?
