Re: Liberal philosophy

The mil-bloggers and the independent reporters are hustling to make a buck.
The mainstream reporters are on a salary. Does anybody verify what any of
these guys are writing and broadcasting? Why won't the mainstream report
anything positive?

Oh wait, that wouldn't sell papers. Am I cynical?

Paul,

I read those types of stories nearly every day, but they're from
mil-bloggers and independent reporters - not the mainstream media, who
have (not) inexplicably gone silent on Iraq, unless it's to hype bogus
suicide rates among vets.

The simple fact that there is no news should tell you there's plenty
of good news.

Existential? That's a Boofy word. Where is the proof that the tribes are
fed
up with the violence? If they are really fed up, why don't we hear about
them turning their weapons on the insurgents, even if that insurgent is a
family member?

It ain't going to happen. There is nothing in that whole region that has
any
redeeming value. It's time for those in the Middle East who profess that
they want to live in peace to bring us OBL. Dead or alive.

Because I think that's short term thinking. If this is an existential
and long term war (which I think it is), you never want to have to
take the same ground twice.

Things are improving exponentially, and not just because of the surge.
refugees are flooding back into Anbar and Bagdhad and both sunni and
shia are fed up with the violence, especially al-q.

If things take a drastic turn for the worse again, then I might
finally be inclined to bug out. but not yet, and certainly not now.

OK.

Rick, why do you think we shouldn't call Iraq and tell our guys to get
on
a
plane today?

I, for one, think we should do that. In the first place, it would take
our
guys out of harm's way. Secondly, there is nothing in the Middle East
worth
fighting for. The only reason we are there is to have access to the oil.

Let's cut a deal with the Chinese. They can have the Middle East, and
they
get out of the African oil fields.

That's irrelevant. The point is you three never debate anything and for
the
second day in a row I get accused of something like "You're going to let
<insert Booth or Terry, or whoever> get away with <whatever they said>.

When was the last time I said anything about the Iraq war?

Buck and I had a thread about 2 months ago on the drop in violence,
but it was pretty much just him and me talking.
