OK, let me explain it to you, Paul. (I thought, what with having
majored in Economics, that this concept would not befuddle you.)
Lets see... Average... thats sort of like... add em all up and divide
by the count. If we were to average these 5 numbers, (2, 4, 6, 8, 10)
we would sum them (30) and divide by the count of 5 and get an answer of
6. You'll notice that about 1/2 are below average, and about 1/2 above
average . There's a lot of variations, but essentially the idea of an
average is to establish a middling point. We can usually be comfortable
with the idea that about half are above average and about half are below
average. Except in Lake Woebegone of course.
Is that an OK explanation? If not, there are various self-help sites
and, if needed, I'd be glad to go into further details.
