Chances are that she was recommended by Norm Coleman. In the past,
administrations usually approved nominations by someone in the other
party. This was the rule, or used to be until this administration
hijacked the process for their own political purposes. George H.W. Bush
(or his Justice Department) approved for assistant US Atty. for Vermont
someone recommended by Pat Leahy.

What I find fascinating is that apparently a Democratic President's team
hired her? Yet its Republicans always screaming about Dems being
totally partisan in all matters.

While she may have had good academic credentials, and was a loyal foot
soldier for the GOP, she was apparently lacking in management experience
(I"m being very polite here) and common sense. She was appointed
because she was a staunch conservative above all else.
I can find no reference anywhere to show who appointed her as Assistant
US attorney. Just because it was during the Clinton years does not mean
that the administration had anything to do with her appointment. The US
Attorneys can appoint their own assistants, as can other designated
officials.

Did you actually read the story? Even her Senator sponsor has abandoned

What credentials, indeed? What evidence do you have that she was NOT qualified?

This goes beyond incompetence and reaches towards downright lunacy.
What credentials could she possibly have had for that appointment?
