Re: Gov Spitzer drops illegals license plan

I wish I could have had my finger successfully reattached. It got sewn back
on, but it died anyway and had to come off again a month later.

Of course, this was in '72 before the days of microsurgery.

We actually never had any problems with Kaiser. Maybe because my grandfather
was a purchaser for them for 30 years and my aunts are nurses there. I had a
detached finger re-attached, broken bones, stitches. My Mom had heart bypass
and cancer surgery there. Although I will say, if you have a choice, there
are certain facilities that are better than others. Go to Canyon Kaiser,
avoid Bellflower, etc.

I can. I grew up on Kaiser in CA. My father and siblings are still on
Kaiser.

Remind me to have you tell how Kaiser Permanente works when we get
on

the
subject of bureaucrats (instead of doctors) deciding who gets what
treatments.

I can agree with most of that, Buck, but you _seriously_
underestimate

the
illegal alien community. I grew up in East LA, Norwalk CA, and East
Whittier. I am from an immigrant family (legal) and grew up
in

neighborhoods
populated by illegal aliens.

In LA, without extending anything but your wallet you can get
foreign

birth
certificates and passports. For an (substantial) additional fee you
can

even
get a passport from the country of your choice for which the
number

will
even pass a name check! They do this because green card
applications

are
country by country and some lines are shorter than others.

If you go to the DMV in CA, there are Mexicans roaming the parking
lot

to
sell you a pen that has all the test answers built right in. Just
dial

the
top to the test number you were handed and all the answers
display

right
down the shaft!

SS#'s are equally easy to get. A girl I knew two houses down was
able

to buy
a US SS# in her own name. The dealers somehow had gotten a database
of

SS# /
Name combinations. If you have a common name (or just assume a
common

name)
you can find a social with that name and use it. But the name
doesn't

even
have to match. Any social will do to get a job. The Fed
will

periodically
send companies lists of SS#'s they report that don't match
the

employee
name, but neither the Fed nor the companies ever follow up.

In east LA illegals run these little businesses out of their homes or
apartments so that other illegals can put down a false address; kind
of

like
a PO box system. They know which mail and phone calls to answer
'yes'

to and
which to answer 'no' to in order to verify "residency" for that
person

for
schools, jobs, government programs, etc.

They hand out pamphlets teaching each other how to get the best
medical

for
free. They know that a pregnant woman should not go to the
emergency

room,
she should call an ambulance and complain of "pain". That will
get

her
instant admittance to the nearest hospital, so they call a block
away

from
the hospital of their choice (and there is a list of the best).
When

I
worked for Tenet Health care (120 hospitals) I saw this first-hand.

This community is very sophisticated at gaming the system. Do not
underestimate them.

The argument, as any sane person reading
the thread will clearly see, is that giving LEGAL ID
to ILLEGAL aliens would allow them a greater
ability to GET AWAY with voting when they should not.

I can't speak for sane people anywhere, not even those in NY
where

I
reside. The amount of emotion over this (which only the
gentle

reader
can judge for himself if such emotion is present in his own
heart)

is
extraordinary. It is also based on pundits reporting what other
pundits have misinterpreted what bloggers have misunderstood Gov
Spitzer to have proposed.

There is at least one fact which has remained overlooked.
The

Spitzer
plan did not simply give drivers licenses to illegal aliens. It
removed one form of ID required to get one -- the Social Security
card. All the other proofs of ID remain intact. One such required
document is proof of birth.
http://www.nydmv.state.ny.us/broch/c-33.htm Please note that a
Mexican, Guatemalan or French birth certificate does not count.
That's a fact. Only these documents count: "Birth
certificate

issued
and certified by a Board of Health or Bureau of Vital Statistics in
the U.S., its territories, or possessions. Foreign
birth

certificates
are not acceptable."
* NYS Photo License/Permit/Non-Driver ID Card
* Military Photo ID Card
* U.S. Passport
* Foreign Passport (with USCIS documentation - formerly
Immigration and Naturalization Service)
* Immigration Documents

Now for some informed opinion. The number of illegal aliens
who

would
voluntarily walk into a government office to file
official

paperwork
in order to get a drivers license is vanishingly small. The
number

of
illegal aliens who bring along their valid foreign
national

passport
is quite likely to be just as small. The practical upshot
of

changing
this law would be insignificant.

So yes, an illegal alien with ID may in fact be able to cast a vote
when he should not. That possibility exists today through
the

magic
of forged documents. The change in that population due to Gov
Spitzer's plan would be very, very small. Undoubtedly smaller than
the number of dead people who routinely vote in Chicago elections.
This, of course, is an opinion. I personally would rather
expend

my
emotional capital working on the problem of corrupt
election

officials
over the handful of added illegal aliens who vote when they
ought

not.

For me, the larger problem is that the electorate is
almost

completely
unaware of the actions of their elected representatives, making an
election less a job review than a rubber stamping of
their

continuance
in office.
