Most Iranian officials are elected too. But the candidates are hand
picked by 'elites', like, some might say, we do here in the US.

Just to ensure that terms are understood by all, could you supply
some examples of 'actual' democracies? Would the old U.S.S.R. be
included? (Officials were apparently elected by registered voters.)
