Our track record in the region is not that strong, though. Afghanistan
is about to tumble to the Taliban again, and Pakistan may too, if we try
any sort of "choice of the people" solution, like an election.
What does it mean that Afghanistan may tumble to the Taliban again?
Seriously. Will the Taliban send an army to invade Maryland? What
are the ramifications of a Taliban government charge of Afghanistan?
And that's presuming that free and fair elections would bring the
Taliban to power.
Lets step back and take a look at the region. Who is there that we can
have some confidence in their support for us? Egypt, Turkey, India...
any other countries that we can use as a starting place to build a Peace
we can live with?
What does it mean to say 'confidence in their support for us?'
Seriously. That's the crux of the problem. It's not like Pakistan is
going to have our back if a kook smuggles a bioweapon into LA. All
the help we're ever going to get out of Pakistan will be contained in
the official condolence note. So yeah, they support us. How, exactly
does that support manifest itself?
We're supporting a dictator financially and militarily. We've sold
out souls to the devil, isn't there supposed to be some reward?
